FAQ: What is Personal Injury Protection?

September 17, 2026

You've probably heard the term "personal injury protection" when shopping for auto insurance. So, what does that term actually mean?

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is coverage that applies to the covered insured on the policy. It covers medical expenses incurred by an accident, which could include medical bills, rehabilitation, etc. It does not cover damage to your car or other vehicles. It's also called "no fault" insurance. PIP coverage is required by law in the state of Florida.
