No, standard homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. Flood can be defined as “rising water from outside of the home”. Flash floods, heavy rainfall, and overflowing rivers are examples of flooding. This is a separate policy. However, some companies will allow flood coverage to be added to a homeowners policy.
